Say Yeh-yeh-yeh-yes to Vuh-vuh-vuh-VBS!

When my blog showed up in the "Dead feeds" list on my RSS Reader (using theoldreader.com now that Google reader is going away), I thought.. hrm.. good time for an update!

Things have been crazy for Team Thompson this week. We have been participating in Vacation Bible School at church in the evenings. In the daytime Isabella started attending day camp last week since school is out for summer. The daycare buses the children to the camp so they have plenty of activities (including swimming) to keep them busy. She's really enjoying it so far, and is getting quite the tan!

So Bella's at camp all day, Lilly's at daycare and Ross and I are at work. then I pick up the girls and we're off to grab dinner and head to VBS. Well, two days so far Lilly has requested to be home, so I drop her off first, but I think she's coming again tonight. So I haven't really been home between 7:45am and 9:45pm. Been quite exhausting, but fun. I'm helping co-teach the 3rd and 4th graders and they are a really great group of kids. We started with 25, and last night we were up to 31! :-O

Tonight is the last night and tomorrow is family night so I'm excited but also sad to see it come to a close. I think the kids have learned a lot and had a good time. But I miss time at home with Ross!

Weekend Roundup

Isabella had her first sleepover at a friend's house last Friday. She did really well and stayed the whole night. I wasn't too worried since she's stayed at my Mom's house many times. But still I was concerned. Thankfully the mother of the girl is my good friend and she sent some texts and pictures to me throughout the evening to calm any fears.

And on Saturday we celebrated my nieces birthdays. 5 and 1! We went to a place with a lot of inflatables and the kids had a blast. We paid to stay extra time and by the evening the kids were both in bed early.

Sunday after church we had a Young Adult luncheon. It was small but really fun and we got to know some people a lot better. And again the kids had fun playing with the other kids there.

Every day is a winding road

Busy, busy, busy. Trying to keep things as simple as possible these days. I'm sure "simple living" is different for everyone, but for me I find that I need to keep trying to live "simpler" just to keep from drowning in the massive amount of events, things, and life that is thrown my way. Everyday choosing to say no to something. Whether that's an outing, a new sport/activity for the kids, or just participation in something. It's not easy, but it's getting easier if you know what I mean.

I'd like to be a yes all-the-time person, but it's just impossible. And it would kill us all trying to do it all. Life's just too short for everything. So I need to focus on what I really want. As well as what my husband and kids really want. And stick to enjoying those things and ONLY those things.

Sorry.. just some random thoughts that came to mind this morning. Happy Friday. :)

Weekend Roundup

Friday night when we got home Ross wasn't feeling well so he rested upstairs all night while the girls and I hung out. Bella was in a helping mood so she helped me with dishes, and various other things and earned $1.50 for it. She was really happy because that brought her up to $20.00 total saved.

Saturday wasn't very eventful. I spent a good portion of the day working on the kids clothes. Instead of having them sorted by size, which tends not to be the best way to tell if something is going to fit, I've now got them in bins according to clothing type. That way I can go to the t-shirt bin, for example, and look for t-shirts that I can see will fit the girls for this spring and fall. I think it's going to make it a bit easier and I won't have to worry that we've missed wearing something cute before they've grown out of it. Plus it makes it easier to see what Lilly's outgrown and we can start selling those clothes off.

Sunday was standard, but great. Good time at church and Ross was off from gaming so after seeing a movie he was home to hang out with us for the evening. Good times. :)

Daily Roundup

Last night Ross and I took the girls to see their new cousin. They were excited to hold him, but that excitement died quickly so we didn't stay long. I love our kids, but patience does not run in their blood. We're working on it, but frankly I need to work on it in myself first.

Right now not much is going on, which means there's probably a lot I should be doing that I just haven't realized. I am reading Carry On, Warrier by Glennon Melton of Momastery.com. Fantastic book. Much from her blog, but it's all good reminders. I like her main themes which are "We can do hard things", "We belong to each other", and "Love Wins". Read it if you can!

And I'm working on doing a 30 day reading the Bible challenge. Not specifally reading any certain passages or the whole Bible, but just doing it daily for 30 days to start a habit. I just have to figure out the best time to do it. Mornings don't really work well. So I figured if I find a time in the evening to do it, I can review it in the morning so I still am able to start my day off right and keep whatever lesson God is giving me at that time with me all day.

Spring Break!

Today is my first day back from a few days off for Spring Break. Mostly it was spent prepping for, enjoying, and recovering from Easter. And then yesterday my newest nephew Levi was born. So here are a few pictures from the week..

Be Positive!

In my Bible Study group last night we had some really good discussions on the Spirit-Filled life. I really enjoyed it, but don't have time to go into it much here. But this particular verse struck me and so I thought I'd share it here.

Philippians 4:8 (KJV)
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

I was encouraging people yesterday at work to be more positive. This verse really hit me as I was re-reading it last night. Such a nice encouragement!

first post again

I have always wanted to be a writer. Or at least to consider myself good at writing. But I've never really taken the steps to get there. I love blogs and I read a lot of them. A good number are individual person blogs and those are the ones that inspire me most. And I most want to emulate them. But the truth is I've always considered myself and my writing not worthy of being "read".

But now I've come to realize that it's not the right way to look at it. I need to start this blog and actually keep going on it. For myself. For an improvement in writing. Stop looking at it as something that the world needs to care about and start doing it just for myself. Maybe then I'll actually improve in my writing skills and become the blogger I dream of. Or maybe I'll just post this and only my loving husband will read it. Either way I want to be a better writer and maybe this will help. At the very least it will get me more comfortable with writing. I hope. Here's to starting.
